How they compare at a glance
Both are broker models paid by lenders. The difference is a person and local knowledge versus a form.
| Sugar Land HQ (broker) | Online lending marketplace | |
|---|---|---|
| Application model | One application, shopped across a network of independent lenders. | An online form matches you to lenders in the platform's network. |
| Who sets the rate and terms | The funding lender, at its own discretion. A broker never sets or guarantees terms. | The funding lender, the same as with any broker. |
| Options from one application | Several independent lenders reached from a single submission. | Lenders in that platform's network. |
| Product range | Term loans, lines of credit, SBA, equipment financing, invoice factoring, and commercial real estate. | Depends on the platform's network. |
| Cost transparency | We disclose that a lender may compensate us for a referral. | Marketplaces are generally compensated by lenders for referrals, the same broker economics. |
| Time cost to you | One conversation and one application instead of repeating the process at each lender. | Fast and mostly self-serve online. |
| What it costs you to use | Our compensation is typically paid by the lender, not billed to you as a separate broker fee. | Typically paid by the lender, not charged to you. |
| Business purpose | Business purpose only. No consumer lending. | Business purpose on most platforms. |
The core difference
A marketplace and a broker share the same economics: one application, a lender network, and compensation paid by the lender. The difference is the experience. A marketplace is software you drive yourself. We are a Texas team that talks through fit and knows how local industries earn and spend.
One application, several lenders, no fee charged to you. The lender still sets the terms.
Apply nowWhen an online marketplace is the better call
An online marketplace can be fast and convenient, and some owners simply prefer to self-serve without a conversation. That is a fair preference, and it is the same broker model at heart. Neither approach is better in every case.
What no broker can promise
A broker cannot set your rate, your term, or your approval. Those are decided by the lender that makes the offer, based on its own underwriting. Anyone quoting an exact rate before seeing your business is guessing.
We give honest ranges only when a lender provides them, and we label any illustrative figure as an estimate. Nothing we publish is an offer of credit or a promise of funding.
Business purpose only
Everything here is for commercial, business-purpose financing. It is not consumer lending, there is no APR promise, and there is no guaranteed approval. By applying you represent that the financing is for a bona fide business purpose.
