How they compare at a glance
Both can fund a business. They differ in how many doors one application opens and who you deal with.
| Sugar Land HQ (broker) | Direct lender | |
|---|---|---|
| Application model | One application, shopped across a network of independent lenders. | You apply straight to that one lender. |
| Who sets the rate and terms | The funding lender, at its own discretion. A broker never sets or guarantees terms. | That lender sets its own terms from its own capital. |
| Options from one application | Several independent lenders reached from a single submission. | One lender, offering only its own products. |
| Product range | Term loans, lines of credit, SBA, equipment financing, invoice factoring, and commercial real estate. | Whatever that single lender chooses to offer. |
| Cost transparency | We disclose that a lender may compensate us for a referral. | You see that lender's pricing directly, with no intermediary. |
| Time cost to you | One conversation and one application instead of repeating the process at each lender. | One application, but only one answer. To compare, you apply again elsewhere. |
| What it costs you to use | Our compensation is typically paid by the lender, not billed to you as a separate broker fee. | No broker in the middle. |
| Business purpose | Business purpose only. No consumer lending. | Varies by lender. |
The core difference
The core difference is reach per application. With a direct lender you get one company's answer, priced from its own book. With a broker you submit once and reach several independent lenders, and each one still decides its own terms.
One application, several lenders, no fee charged to you. The lender still sets the terms.
Apply nowWhen a direct lender is the better call
A direct lender can be an excellent choice, especially when you already have a lender you trust or you want one company handling everything end to end. If you know exactly who you want to work with, applying to them directly is simple and sensible.
What no broker can promise
A broker cannot set your rate, your term, or your approval. Those are decided by the lender that makes the offer, based on its own underwriting. Anyone quoting an exact rate before seeing your business is guessing.
We give honest ranges only when a lender provides them, and we label any illustrative figure as an estimate. Nothing we publish is an offer of credit or a promise of funding.
Business purpose only
Everything here is for commercial, business-purpose financing. It is not consumer lending, there is no APR promise, and there is no guaranteed approval. By applying you represent that the financing is for a bona fide business purpose.
